FreshStop at Caltex Kara Glen has been raised from the ashes, metaphorically speaking. The site, which has been owned by Pam Hargovan for the past 16 years, was rebuilt from scratch, with the store being redesigned and the fuel forecourt repositioned. It reopened its doors on 30 November 2017 on the corner of Baker and Harris Roads in Kara Glen on the East Rand.

According to the Store Retailer, Pam Hargovan, “We previously had an L-shaped forecourt and the shop was an old workshop converted to a shop. Now we have a starter gate design and a nice rectangular shop with the state-of-the-art pumps facing the store. The knockdown and rebuild have also created more jobs with all our additional food lines and service offerings increasing the staff complement from 25 to 30 full-time positions, and most of our staff are from the Tembisa area”.

As the 269th store in the FreshStop national network, FreshStop Kara Glen offers customers a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, a selection of grocery items and a Grab n Go section for fresh sandwiches, pies, subs, wraps, smoothies and snacks. In addition, the store boasts a full Seattle Coffee bar with Barista, a Hot Dog Bar and a full bakery offering a range of freshly baked confectionery. There is also a Standard Bank ATM on-site for additional customer convenience.

“The store will have a very positive impact on the local community, not only can customers come to fill up fuel, they can also do grocery shopping, withdraw cash, grab a great cup of coffee 24-hours, or purchase airtime and electricity. We encourage all local residents and commuters to pop by and experience this brand new and modern FreshStop site and it’s awesome Seattle Coffee,” says Pam.

As a family business, Pam’s son Navin has been managing the site since she purchased it in 2001 and will continue to do so. His strong background in retail management spans more than 30 years and will be invaluable to the growth of this operation. According to Navin, “We are very excited. The site was closed for over 10 months for the rebuild but it has been worth the wait. Having a Freshstop offering in the area is going to attract a whole new dynamic to the site. It’s a great brand with a great offering and together with the support from FreshStop it can only grow from strength to strength”.

We wish Pam, Navin and their team all the best for the opening of this 269th FreshStop at Caltex Kara Glen store.

FreshStop, named International Convenience Retailer of the Year 2013 and finalist of the 2017 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award, is South Africa’s fastest growing 24-hour convenience store brand and has a network of 269 stores countrywide.
