Gerhard and Illze Coetzer who purchased the Caltex service station at 647 Paul Kruger Street in Eloffsdal, Pretoria in 2005 have again reinvented their business by opening a new FreshStop store on site. After completely upgrading the site and fuel forecourt in 2012, it was time for another fresh start and an extended offering.
On 23 August 2018, the brand new FreshStop at Caltex Eloffsdal store opened its doors as the 282nd FreshStop store nationally. The store offers customers a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, a range of grocery items, a selection of hot foods and a Grab n Go section with lots of fresh sandwiches, wraps, drinks, and pies. “We are very excited to bring additional food choices to our customers as we have introduced a Seattle Coffee bar with barista service as well as a Doughnut Delite outlet. The two offerings complement each other wonderfully and we hope our customers feel the same,” says Illze Coetzer, Store Retailer.
Gerhard and Illze have lived in the area for the past 13 years since purchasing the business. Gerhard was previously a Civil Engineer and Illze was working in the IT world as a financial business analyst before they entered the fuel retail business. As owners of three FreshStop at Caltex sites, they have brought their skills to bear in successfully running this family business. “We are very proud of the fact that we have been able to create employment for at least 10 new employees, which brings our staff complement to 35 in total. The best part of it is that our on-site Manager, Alfred Kgadima, started with us in 2005 as a petrol attendant and has worked his way up to management,” explains Illze.
With the building of new housing developments in the area, FreshStop Eloffsdal aims to attract those people working late or hitting the road early for a great cup of coffee and a fresh doughnut. In addition, the store will be offering customer Reverse Osmosis purified water and an ABSA ATM.
