As Itumeleng Matlala, Store Retailer of the FreshStop at Caltex Nigel Service Station, says, “I am very excited as this has been a long time coming and I know that the community has been eagerly waiting for the opening”. These words are a testament to the work and passion that has been put into the new FreshStop at Caltex store that opened on 22 August 2019 at 1 Heidelberg Road in Nigel.
The Caltex fuel forecourt has been totally rebuilt and in place of the previous Star Mart, the new modern and fresh FreshStop convenience store has been introduced. FreshStop offers customers a range of fresh fruit and vegetables; a variety of grocery items; a Grab n Go section with pies and hot takeaway food; as well as snacks and refreshments. In addition, there is also a Grill to Go outlet which serves flame-grilled chicken and burgers, as well as a House of Coffees coffee bar with a barista service.
Itumeleng, who was originally in the financial services industry, has been running the Nigel Caltex Service Station on behalf of the Royale Energy Group for the past three years and says, “It has been a service-oriented station for more than 20 years and many of Nigel’s businesses grew up around this site, so we are very proud to see where it is today”.

The Nigel FreshStop store also offers customers GloCell (airtime and electricity), Halaal food and it is linked to the Standard Bank UCount Rewards programme. In addition to the great products and services available in-store, the rejuvenation of the site has seen 24 people from the local community employed.
