It’s the end of another long pandemic year. Somehow, we all got through 2021! We’ve done research to see what food trends could gain traction in 2022. You would be surprised at our discovery!
1. Easy Food
After nearly two years of dealing with a global pandemic, consumers are tired. Tired of making food, tired of meal planning, tired of cleaning up messes, tired of eating the same thing… just generally tired of making food.
Enter the resurgence of ready-made meals, more sophisticated and better-tasting ready-made meals you are already familiar with. Enter FreshStop – the best convenience store in South Africa. At FreshStop we offer a variety of ready-to-go meals from boerie rolls, pap en vleis, lasagne, and even pizza you can just pop in the oven, and just like that dinner is ready!
2. Hibiscus, Tumeric, and Moringa
Foods with benefits are a hot commodity for 2022, such as foods with anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, and even anti-aging properties. Tumeric can be a little hard to swallow – while on the go unless you grab a refreshing Carrot and Tumeric Infused vegetable extract from Rugani. Not only is it a better choice amongst many of the beverage alternatives in the fridge, but it is packed with goodness, in a single serving size, and contains no preservatives. But what about Hibiscus!!! Rugani has got you covered there too, with their Zobo and beetroot flavour. *Zobo is the West African name for hibiscus, where it is has been revered as a superfood for ages.
3.Veggie Juice
For a long time, vegetable juice stands an inferior position due to its poor taste. But vegetable juice has an advantage over fruit juice in its mineral substance and nutrients. And low calories and sugar quantity permit its popularity among the masses. Ruganni juice has been populating our shelves and the hearts of our customers. The Rugani 100% Green Juice is a powerful juice containing superfood ingredients such as fresh cucumber, pineapple, celery, ginger, and moringa. This juice is a perfect combination of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients & anti-oxidants to support good health.
4. Doggy Friendly Places
There is a study going around saying dogs are experiencing separation anxiety due to the constant lockdowns and people working from home, it’s called “Pandemic Puppy”.
Dogs are following their owners (besties) everywhere they go, restaurants included, and many establishments have responded by allowing dogs to accompany owners specifically at outdoor dining spots. Be prepared to see more waggly tails at your favourite establishments in 2022.
Many of our FreshStop stores have outdoor doggy-friendly areas where you and your K9 bestie can relax while you snack on some Crispy Chicken or Grill to Go.
5. Milk but not Milk:
Dairy aisles have exploded with milk and milk alternative options over the past few years, so be prepared to see some of these a lot more at your local FreshStop:
- Almond milk
- Oatmilk
- Soy milk
- Honourable mention: Potato Milk I don’t know who came up with the idea of making potatoes into milk, but it’s both absurd and intriguing. Not yet available in SA, be sure to keep an eye out. It is dairy-free, gluten-free, casein-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, and soy-free.
Seattle Coffee Co and Manhattan Coffee, both at various FreshStop stores are sure to offer you every kind of milk to make sure your preference is met.
Are you an early-adopter? Or one to wait when the trends become commonplace in everyone’s day? Don’t worry, we can all take part in the “Easy Food” trend. 😂
