DEVELOPMENT AND JOBS FOR CALA COMMUNITY
Cala is a small town located in the Eastern Cape that has been forever changed with the development of the new FreshStop at Caltex site, located on the corner of UmzimkuluĀ Street and the R410. FreshStop Cala opened on 7 November and the store offers customers a Grill to Go outlet as well as a House of Coffees self-service coffee station.
Lwandile Njobe, the Store Retailer, is a born and bred local and lives in the Tsengiwe location in Cala. He has previously worked in the public health sector where his background includes being Assistant Director: Epidemiology for the Department of Health as well as working with the World Health Organisation for four years as a Disease Surveillance Officer.
According to Lwandile, the site is the first fuel forecourt of its kind in Cala, and brings development and upliftment to his rural community. āCala is such a small community that we donāt have any business hub so it will become the retail centre in town. Itās the first time that we have a store such as this where residents can access fresh fruit and veg at reasonable prices, a variety of food options, as well as over-the-counter medication. It really is a bright day for Cala,ā says Lwandile.
The new site also means desperately needed new jobs for the local community. The Caltex fuel forecourt has been able to employ 12 people and the FreshStop store has created nine new jobs, all for people from the local Cala community.
āWe are all very excited about this opening, which brings together the best in convenience from FreshStop, the best in fuel lubricants from Caltex, and the best service at all times from our staff. A winning combination,ā concludes Lwandile.
