On 25 March 2021, a brand-new fuel forecourt convenience retail store opened at 58 Durban Street in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal. FreshStop Greytown, located on the busy main road, is an ideal stop for commuters and travellers wanting great food, refreshments and an opportunity to ‘freshen up on the go’; and the fuel forecourt has been upgraded to provide free flow to traffic in and out of the site.
Born and bred in Greytown, Store Retailer, Suren Maharaj, joined his brother, Vish, in the family business in 1978, when the site operated as a Caltex service station with a general automotive workshop and auto parts store. The site has undergone various transformations over the years but in 2009, the auto repair shop closed and the auto parts business started trading as David’s Midas.
The new FreshStop Greytown c-store offers local residents and travellers a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, a variety of grocery items, and a Grab n Go section with pies, baked goods, sandwiches and refreshments. In addition, the store boasts Crispy Chicken and Grill to Go takeaway outlets as well as a House of Coffees self-service coffee station. An ATM and Aramex overnight parcel delivery service will soon be available.
Suren Maharaj says they offer a “24-hour shopping convenience in a beautifully laid out and air-conditioned store. Our food offering has enjoyed rave reviews in the local community and our House of Coffees station makes great beverages. We believe that our coffee is Barista coffee without the Barista cost”.
The site employs a total of 56 people from Greytown and the surrounding Umvoti and Umzinyathi districts, with 10 of these jobs being newly created. “We are very excited about our new venture, which we believe perfectly complements the newly upgraded forecourt. We have ample parking, with ease of access to the site and we can’t wait to welcome you,” concludes Maharaj.
We wish Suren, Vish and their entire team all the best for the opening of this 337th FreshStop at Caltex Greytown store.
FreshStop, named International Convenience Retailer of the Year 2013 and finalist of the 2017 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award, is South Africa’s largest and fastest growing 24-hour convenience store retail brand, having opened 337 stores countrywide.
