Convenience shopping has taken on new meaning in Mosselbaai with the opening of FreshStop at Caltex Mosselbaai on 17 May 2018.
The store is situated adjacent to Louis Fourie Road, Voorbaai near the Langeberg Shopping Mall, the store offers a wide-range of fresh goods and convenience foods from self-service Lavazza Coffee to biltong as well as all the necessary ‘padkos’ ingredients. Not only do they cater for road trip enthusiasts, but locals will also benefit from the ease of shopping as well as other available services such as an Aramex Courier Service and Capitec and FNB ATMs. The Caltex fuel forecourt has also extended its offering. Previously only bulk diesel was available, but now both petrol and diesel as well as Starcard and Efuel are available on-site.
Store Retailers, Carl and Charin Guse, are no strangers to the convenience retail sector. In fact, the location has a rich history. It is here that they opened Mosselbaai’s first 24-hour Starshop at Jack’s Diensstasie in 1995. Now, after 23 years of trade, this store has closed its doors to make way for the new FreshStop Mosselbaai.
“We realised we wanted to offer our customers more in terms of fresh goods, on-the-go foods and general services and the opening of FreshStop Mosselbaai has allowed us to do just that. With promotions and value added services targeted at local businesses, families, pensioners, school children and holiday makers there is something for everyone at FreshStop,” says Carl.
The store not only benefits the local retail sector, but also the community as a whole. All employees are from the area with some of them having worked with Carl and Charin for more than 15 years.
As Carl says, “This is a family-operated business. My parents, Johan and Wilna Guse, founded the original business and are still the major stakeholders while my son, Niël Guse, is the Store Supervisor. We have 20 staff members, many of whom have been with us for a number of years. I am proud to say that we have a very low staff turnover.”
The project has been two years in the making and the doors are finally open. With customers being served in both Afrikaans and English, special Afrikaans signage was manufactured to make this the first FreshStop in SA with English and Afrikaans signage. FreshStop Mosselbaai has made way for a new era in convenience shopping; we congratulate the Guse Family on the opening of this 276th FreshStop at Caltex store.
